VR/AR/XR / Immersive Learning
To fly over, around, and through this virtual world based on the animated film “Aladdin” guests first donned a head-mounted display and then navigated their own magic carpet through different adventures in the fabled city of Agrabah.
Our team at Walt Disney Imagineering focused on using VR to teach new skills, like controlling the magic carpet, in the context of immersive storytelling.
The system was field-tested at EPCOT Center for fourteen months as we conducted controlled experiments, observing the reactions of over 45,000 guests.

Our team was contracted by DisneyQuest to develop this Jungle-Cruise-meets-Jurassic-Park virtual reality experience.
Sitting in a physical raft, guests navigated a prehistoric water way filled with curious dinosaurs, looking for a “time-travelling” device that would bring them home.
The raft sat on airbags which inflated and deflated to simulate riding over rapids. Guests propelled their raft through the virtual world by physically stroking their paddles across a mesh of sensors that detected the direction and velocity of each stroke.
Explaining their “mission” and teaching them to control the raft were the learning elements key to giving our guests a fun, rewarding experience.
The attraction was field-tested at Disney’s indoor theme park in Chicago and was enjoyed by more than 75,000 guests.
